Dunster Castle and Watermill

As a National Trust member, I’ve been looking for new adventures in the UK to go and explore, and Dunster Castle is one to add to my favourites list! Located in Minehead, Somerset, Dunster Castle and Watermill is about a 2 hour drive away from home, although it is definitely worth the travel to this ancient castle.

Dunster Castle Ghost Tours

If you’re into a more spookier setting, Dunster Castle also hosts spine-tingling ghost tours, where you can explore its shadowy corridors and hear eerie tales of the castle’s mysterious past!

Dog Friendly

Dunster Castle & Watermill is wonderfully dog-friendly, welcoming well-behaved pups on leads throughout its gardens, grounds, and selected areas of the estate. There are plenty of shady spots, water bowls, and scenic walking routes, so four-legged visitors can enjoy the day just as much as their humans.

Dunster Castle & Watermill offers a brilliant day out for families, with a dedicated children’s play area tucked within the woodland grounds—perfect for letting little ones run wild in a safe and scenic setting - Of course I had to have a go myself!

Nearby, tranquil reservoirs provide peaceful walking routes and lovely spots for nature watching. Accessibility is thoughtfully considered throughout the estate, with well-maintained paths suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, ramped access/slopes and powered mobility vehicles available, making it easy for everyone to explore the historic castle, working watermill, and surrounding gardens.
